How To Choose Your Senior Photographer Part 1: Your Style Matters

By: Meredith Kavanaugh

As senior year approaches there are a few big decisions that need to be made, one of them being who you will choose to be your senior photographer. Senior photos are typically a big investment and commemorate a really important milestone in your life. That being said, HOW do you actually choose your senior photographer? What do you need to be thinking about? There are so many great photographers to choose from in every area, with Newnan, Peachtree City, and Fayetteville, GA being no exception. As a photographer with years of experience specializing in high school seniors, I decided to put together this blog series to help make that decision a little easier for you!

Your Style Matters

One of the first things to consider is what is YOUR style?? When choosing your senior photographer (in Newnan or anywhere!), you’ve definitely got to take their editing style into account. There are so many to choose from, but what matters most is your preference, because these are images that will commemorate this time in your life. Are you drawn to that dark and moody look? Light and airy? Or, are you like me, and can’t get enough of that vibrant and classic style? If you like bright and vibrant colors, that photographer that uses a dark and moody editing style might not get you those final images that make your heart sing. If you like a light and airy image where the colors are more muted, you may not want to choose a photographer with that bright and vibrant style. In the end, it is all about you. Your preferences and your style. There might be a photographer that "everyone goes to," but your needs and style could be different from theirs. You deserve to have photos you love.

What will you hang on your walls?

Make sure you keep your color preferences in mind and think about how you want to use your images…how will that photographer’s final images of you look when hanging on the wall next to the others in your home? Will they fit cohesively with how your home is decorated and the colors you’ve used? We all walk down the halls at our houses, and those of our friends and family, and check out all the photos hanging there. The different editing styles are pretty obvious as you look at the photos of each generation…I’m looking at you 1970’s! Those double exposures and people looking off into the distance…or how about those ‘90s Glamour shots?! (Any of you other mamas have those cause I do! Lol!) What do you want your children and grandchildren to think when they see YOUR photos hanging on the walls of your parents’ home and your home?

Vibrant. Classic. Fun.

At MKP our editing style is vibrant, classic, and fun. I love true to color edits where green looks like green, pink looks like pink, blue looks like…well, you get the idea! I especially love when my seniors pick bright colors to wear and I love a good sunset! If this is how you feel too, if you love color…TRUE, not desaturated color, if you want images that are classic, will stand the test of time, and not look dated based on what style is “in” in the moment, and if you want a truly FUN and customized experience, then give MKP a try.

I recognize that choosing your senior photographer is a big decision, one that will live with you (and on your walls) for generations. Here at MKP I offer a free consultation so you can see if we are the right fit before making that big decision. If you are a high school senior Metro Atlanta, Newnan, Peachtree City, or Fayetteville (or if you are from out of town and just can’t get enough of our style) reach out to Meredith Kavanaugh Photography today and let’s get you scheduled for your free consult!
